Joinery Derby: one trusted team for the whole job
Derbyshire Joinery Specialists is the joinery and carpentry arm of Derbyshire Specialists Group, founded by Liam Taylor. Liam has worked in property for more than ten years, starting with flooring and property development, and set the group up so customers deal with one company rather than a string of separate trades.
Our joiners make and fit the woodwork that changes how a home looks and works, from a single internal door to a full kitchen. When a job needs an electrician, a plumber, a tiler or a plasterer as well, we arrange them through the group and they go on the same quote, so you have one point of contact from the first visit to the finished job.
We can supply everything, make it to measure, or fit things you have already bought. Every quote is free, written and based on a visit to measure up, and we explain the options in plain English so you know exactly what you are paying for.

Joiners Derby: carpentry done properly
Good joinery is mostly about the parts you never see. Walls are rarely straight, floors are rarely level and openings are rarely square, so every piece we fit is measured on site and scribed to the house, not to a drawing. That is what makes a wardrobe meet the ceiling, a door close cleanly and a gate hang straight in a gap that is wider at the top than the bottom.
Our joiners choose the joint to suit the job, from mortise and tenon or dovetail joints where strength matters to screws and fixings where speed and adjustment matter more, and pick timber and sheet materials for how they will be used: hardwood where it will be handled and seen, treated softwood outdoors, MDF where it will be painted. We can advise on finishes too, from oil and lacquer to paint and stain.
If you are looking for a carpenter in Derby, or a local joiner near you anywhere in Derbyshire, for a job that is not listed here, ask anyway. Under-stairs storage, floor boarding, outdoor steps for decking and one-off pieces all come through our door.

Joinery questions
How much do your joinery services cost?
Every job is quoted after we have measured up, but as a guide: fitting a smaller kitchen you have bought typically starts from about £1,500 to £2,500, a fitted wardrobe typically costs £2,000 to £4,000, hanging an internal door is normally about £140 + VAT, and a new garden gate supplied and fitted is typically £350 to £500. Quotes are free and finance is available, subject to status.
What should I look for when choosing a joiner?
Look for experience in the kind of work you need, proper insurance, and someone who explains things clearly. Good communication goes a long way to making sure the finished job is what you expected.
What is your most frequent joinery job?
There is no single job we do far more than any other, and many projects use several of our services. A kitchen extension, for example, usually involves building stud walls before the kitchen units go in.
Do you plasterboard stud walls?
No. We build the stud frame, including any pattressing for heavy items, and the plasterer boards and skims it. We can arrange the plasterer through Derbyshire Specialists Group.
What size wooden gates can you make?
Almost any size. The most popular back garden gate is tongue and groove, around 6 ft high by 3 ft wide. Our driveway gates typically range from 3 to 6 ft high and 5 to 8 ft wide per gate.
Can you fit things I have already bought?
Yes. We fit kitchens from any supplier, hang doors you have bought and install fitted wardrobe systems from elsewhere, as well as supplying and making joinery ourselves.
